Sunagoke

Sphagnum moss, also known as "sunagoke" in Japanese, is a type of moss that forms colonies in places like riverbeds, sandy areas, and on rocks in Japan. It is characterized by its light green, star-shaped leaves. Sphagnum moss prefers well-lit locations with good drainage. It is also resistant to dry conditions, so it's recommended to water it when the tips of the leaves have closed and become string-like.

If you want to propagate sphagnum moss, the "maki-koke" method is recommended. This involves crumbling the moss into small pieces and scattering it on the soil like seeds.

Sphagnum moss can be used to cover the soil of bonsai or moss balls, creating a beautiful bonsai covered in lush green.
