The concepts of "competency trap" and "internalization"

In this article, I will consider the concepts of "competency trap" and "internalization" from the perspective of my current job in network engineering. These concepts play an important role in network engineers' daily work.

"Competency trap" is a phenomenon in which companies become stuck in their existing core business and past successes and are unable to see new possibilities. From the perspective of network engineering, this competency trap is particularly important. Network engineers need to constantly learn new technologies, protocols, and tools and adapt them to the existing network environment. However, sticking to past successes and existing network designs can lead to neglecting the exploration of new technologies, which can ultimately limit the possibilities for innovation.

On the other hand, "internalization" refers to accepting the values and norms of a society as one's own values and norms. When a network engineer "internalizes" new technologies and knowledge, they become part of their own skill set and can be used in their daily work. However, excessive internalization can make it difficult to try new perspectives and approaches, which can lead to a competency trap.

As can be seen, the concepts of competency trap and internalization also play an important role in the field of network engineering.
